Our Award-Winning Members

The Hamilton-Wentworth Heritage Association (HWHA) recently honoured two of our members, Marilyn Rayner Hardsand and Paul Nicholson, at a ceremony held April 30 in the Coach House at Dundurn National Historic Site.

The awards, as explained by the Heritage Association, recognize individuals who “enrich the Hamilton-Wentworth Heritage community through volunteer work in historical or heritage sites or organizations.”

Marilyn has actively served on our executive for over 15 years, including as Secretary and Councillor, in addition to various roles in education and outreach activities.

Paul was recognized for facilitating hybrid remote/in-person branch meetings and for coordinating the Branch’s advocacy to protect the Hamilton United Empire Loyalists monument, which was under threat of removal by the City of Hamilton. The City’s Landmarks and Monuments Review had labelled it as “potentially problematic for Indigenous peoples.” Paul has since received an assurance from the City that it is no longer considering the monument for removal.

Congratulations to Marilyn and Paul!
