Aaron was the third grandson of Domine (Rev.) Evardus Bogardus who came from Holland to New Amsterdam (New York) in the early 17th century. Aaron was born in 1760 in Monmouth, New Jersey. According to documents, he was living in Kingston Twp., Midland District, (Frontenac County) in 1786 and was declared a Loyalist.
A story handed down over the years is that Aaron’s third great grandmother, Anneke Jans, was descended from King William the first of Holland. She inherited 62 acres in the heart of New York City, but her descendants were unable to claim the land due to disputed title.
