Daniel Cummins was born in Lebanon Township in Hunterdon County, New Jersey and moved with his family at age four to New Jersey. At the outbreak of the Revolution Daniel’s brother John joined the New Jersey Volunteers and was later captured by the rebels and died while imprisoned.
After the family’s property was confiscated by the Sussex County Committee of Safety, Daniel, his wife Christina, and their five children walked to Newark where his petition for land resulted in a crown patent for land in Ancaster Township. He settled in West Flamborough where he built the Cummins Chapel which later became Rock Chapel Church.
We recently plaqued the Millgrove Cemetery where Daniel Cummins is buried.
