James Hunter

James Hunter, a native of Scotland, served under Lord Cornwallis in North Carolina, having joined the Royal Standard in 1781. He was an accomplished painter and recorded places and events of the Revolutionary War in Canada. He settled in King Township and Barton Township in Wentworth County with his wife and seven children. In 1808 James purchased lots 7 and 8 from Abraham Horning.

David Quinn generously gave our Hamilton Branch copies of the handwritten will of his ancestor plus a wonderful early map of Barton Township. We will be using these artifacts as part of our educational presentations to schools. Our thanks go out to David for sharing these rich materials with us.
